First Encounter

Her images are everywhere and saved for me alone to share
But when we meet how will it be, and will I feel the same for she?
These questions fill my mind again and as I head toward the plane,
Worn out from a sickly day, should I still go or should I stay?

We planned to meet the following day, communicating all the way,
At a place of which we neither knew, and she must travel as I flew.
Lest our transports hit a snag, we keep cellphones in our hands
To keep in touch for hours it seems, or changes in our travel needs.

Ill-prepared for such a trip his cellphone had not been equipped
For contact on a worldwide bed and in the desert it was dead.
How could she tell he was on his way, would she go or even stay
To greet him at this neutral place for first time meeting, face to face.

To wait for hours in desert night his mind again fell into fright,
When we meet how will it be, and will she feel the same for me?
It's not too late to turn around and head back home to safer ground,
But how could he abandon her if she had made the journey there?

With heart in mouth a boarding call drives him through the terminal
In due respect of his lady fair, trusting that she will be there.
Onward through the night he flies, hoping they will bind the ties
Which both of them feel shall be made after all the things they said.

Bag in hand through customs check, security and waiting crowd,
Searching for her smiling face he hears his name called out so loud.
There she stood, not in a swarm, taxi waiting, outstretched arms,
In command, as if she knew that he felt lost in this foreign land.

The hotel gave a welcomed chance to unwind, shower and relax
From all the travel both had done, day and night in dark and sun.
And so they shower and get changed to visit temples as arranged
To give thanks for deliverance and pray to strengthen their romance.

Eleven days were all they had, cut short because they'd felt so bad
That she had not become as free as both had hoped initially.
Their last 3 days turned out the best, no more travel, time to rest
And get to know each other well, to think what fortune might foretell.

And so it came to say Goodbye, her coach must leave, he must fly.
No time for lovers' warm embrace, the airport has no Farewell place.
A kiss, a hug, and then a wave as her taxi whisks her on her way
With bitter tears, which neither see... and his come too, so readily.

Alone again, wait for the plane, customs check and parting pain
As other travellers wonder why this man sits sad with teary eye.
If they only knew that in his mind he'd left a part of self behind,
His woman had become his life.. but not yet free to be his wife.
