Life Cycle
See the leaves upon the ground
in red and gold and shades of brown;
lying lifeless on the grass,
they tell another season's passed.
No longer in their living green,
as once they were upon the tree,
reminding us that as things grow,
just as surely they will go... and wither,
leaving not a trace,
to let a fresh growth take their place.
Just as ever, where there's life,
all living things encounter strife.
Leaves survive the burning sun,
with cold and autumn squalls they're done.
The May fly, when it comes to play,
finds life is ended in a day;
yet Redwood trees just grow and grow
to reach a massive height and show
that all things have their time and place.
So it is with human race.
We too have an allotted span,
our task to do the best we can,
so when we're done we leave behind
an Earth that's more than that we found.
