View Through A Webcam
Words I write on virtual paper,
then cast abroad into the ether,
created by a searching mind
and hoping that a soul will find,
whose painful lack and yearning needs
send new words back with fertile seeds.
The ticking clock upon the wall
sends a message to us all.
Time is all we have to give
if we're to have a life to live.
It's up to us our life to choose,
we fight to win lest we should lose.
So, best to go whilst there's still time,
no need to wait for clock to chime.
First time I saw my woman's face
was on a webcam, beamed through space.
Her smile was brighter than the sun
that lights the midday sky in June,
her hair as black as darkest sky
and diamonds twinkled in her eyes.
A smile so warm, so soft and broad,
yet some might think it quite absurd
that a smile from halfway 'round the world
should make me board a silver bird
to cross the seas and not return.
Some shake their heads in wonderment
when I say she's heaven sent.
They ask me how I came to meet her,
and when I tell them "in the ether"
they laugh and shake their heads again,
imagining some future pain
for me, if I should choose to leave,
and yet they say that they believe.
These folks say "Having Faith is best"
but they rarely put Faith to the test.
So if they really do believe,
why the fuss if I should leave?
Their prayers, like mine, are verbal letters,
I sent one off and Fate delivered.
We only have one life to use,
it's up to us which path to choose.
And if that path's been trod before,
by a walker who did not adore,
who's to say that another soul
won't fill her needs and reach the goal.
